If you’re anything like me, you don’t have nearly as much fun getting dressed for a regular work day as you do for the weekend or even an after-work outing. I know work clothes can be fun too, but since I’d rather spend my money on trendy or chill clothes, my work attire can be described as, at best, cute business casual. In other words, boring. Work fashion doesn’t excite me as much as everyday fashion does, especially street style, although I may not be brave enough yet to don some of the cool outfits I see and love.
But having to dress for my 9 to 5 for 5 out of 7 days in the week leaves me with the dilemma of not having enough time to experiment with new looks. Now, I’m no fashionista, but I do dabble and at least know what the trends are, even if I don’t wear them every day. In the beginning of each new season, I usually make a list of key pieces I want to get and go on Pinterest and Instagram for looks I want to try. But this summer is going by super fast! So what’s girl to do when it seems there aren’t enough days in the summer for fun, warm weather fashion?
I decided to post some of my favorite looks on here and challenge myself to execute all of them by the end of the season. Challenge accepted.
Here are the particulars:
As seems to be the case every season lately, prints are in this summer. In addition, so are matching separates. With this outfit, you get two for one. I love the fringe-y sandals too. Thankfully, I have a pair already!
More prints; this time, a little bit of mix and match. My favorite part of these looks are the use of the pineapple, which also seems to be big this summer, and the tropical plants in the bold prints. As usual, the Quann sisters are killing it.
I love a block heel sandal and a romper. I do own a couple rompers and I just got my first pair of block-heeled sandals. Now I just have to style an outfit around them. This should be fun.
Speaking of outfits to wear with block heels, I can definitely wear them with jeans. I also really like that these are tie-up sandals, another trend this summer.
T-shirt dresses are so comfy and comfort is key to me. So, I’m not sure why I don’t own a t-shirt dress. Besides comfortability, they are also very versatile and can be dressed up or down. I will be sure to pick up one…or two. I’m thinking a solid and a striped one. You can never go wrong with stripes.
Overall shorts are back from our childhood. Who would have thought? Since I have been seeing them on trend again, I always thought they were cute, just a little bit juvenile in the way they were usually styled – that and I’ve mostly seen them in teen fashion (which I have nothing against since I often shop in the junior stores since I’m barely 5 feet tall and also young at heart lol). But the overalls in this pic look refreshingly grown up, but still comfy. And we all know how I feel about that.
There are so many varieties of this off-the-shoulder top popping up this summer. There are white flowy ones for a boho chic look, there are chambray ones, and many other colors and styles. I really like this one because I’ve been kind of partial to grey tones lately and the details are adorable. You also can’t go wrong with the tie-up sandals and ever present lace bralette.
I have been wanting a duster vest ever since I decided that even though they are probably not the most practical outerwear for me (if I’m cold enough for a jacket, my arms are cold too, naturally), they are too cute and versatile to pass up. This piece may be more of a fall piece, so I think I still have time to get with the program.
A tie-dye dress and this one has pockets… Enough said! It’s perfect for a nice summer day running errands or going on a picnic or even wearing it on the beach as a cover up.
Graphic tees are one of my faves. Sadly, I don’t own nearly enough of them. I definitely need a grey tee like this one and the way she has styled it with the denim wrap skirt and accessories is very inspiring.
Well, what do you know, a cute summer outfit that I can wear to work. Minus the Chucks, of course. I really like the simplicity of this outfit and how the long blazer kicks it up a notch. I will be trying this before the summer is up, promise.
Last but not least, this girl slaying in her sheer lace dress, bralette, and high waist shorts. Street style at its finest and #BlackGirlMagic. This is one of those outfits I would have to work up the courage to wear. But I’m thinking… Afropunk? We’ll see 😛
